The Singapore Asset Management Conference is an initiative to expose undergraduates in the region to the growing asset management industry in Singapore. The Conference is organised by the Yale-NUS Student Investment Group (YNSIG), and SAMC 2018 is the third iteration of YNSIG’s flagship conference. By the end of the conference, delegates can expect to walk away with the knowledge, connections and skills needed to secure opportunities in the asset management industry.
What to Expect
1. Keynote Addresses
The Conference will have two Keynote Addresses,delivered by senior management from various firms in the asset management industry.
2. Panel Discussions
Moderated by industry professionals, three panel discussions featuring senior management, portfolio managers and private bankers respectively will engage delegates on various topics pertaining to asset management.
3. Networking Lunch
Delegates have the opportunity interact with speakers and panel members over lunch, as well as connect with HR representatives from partner firms and organisations.
4. Case Competition
A case competition will be held to identify delegates with skills relevant to the industry. The competition will be judged by our platinum sponsor. Outstanding delegates will be invited to a Private Dinner with J.P. Morgan Senior Management.
5. Educational Workshops
Non-competing delegates will learn from professors and analysts from financial institutions on how to tackle a case. Delegates can expect to find these skills useful for interviews and summer internships.

Get an insight to future outlook, market trends and opportunities for asset management in the industry today. Specifically, a member of senior management from J.P. Morgan will discuss the major challenges faced by one of the world’s leading asset managers, and the broad strategies being pursued in response to today’s unprecedented environment. This keynote will orientate delegates to the directed discussions happening in the panels throughout the conference.
Over the past year, actively managed mutual funds recorded a net outflow of $316 billion, while index funds recorded a net inflow $409 billion. However, evidence has been growing that the market for index funds is quickly becoming saturated, to the extent that fears about liquidity and the efficient pricing of new investments have surfaced. The growth in demand for index funds has thus created new opportunities for alpha, and could potentially reverse the high performance of indexing strategies. Is there a bubble for index funds?

Outstanding candidates in the breakout workshops will be invited to network with senior professionals and analysts from J.P. Morgan over a cocktail dinner function.
